S.J.Res. 141 Procedural vote, hasn't passed

Sponsored by Raphael G. Warnock (D)

A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection relating to the withdrawal of the rule relating to "Debt Collection Practices (Regulation F); Deceptive and Unfair Collection of Medical Debt".

Would block the CFPB's withdrawal of its medical debt collection rules.

Tradeoff

Would reinstate federal restrictions on debt collectors pursuing people for medical bills. Debt collectors argue the rules are too strict; consumer advocates say they need stronger protections.
