Leech Lake Reservation Restoration Amendments Act of 2025
Transfers federal forest land in Minnesota to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe for tribal benefit.
Tradeoff
Restores land to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe that federal records show was sold without tribal consent. The Forest Service swaps out an equal acreage of other national forest land in the same county to replace it.
What's in it
Between zero and $500,000 in increased direct spending over 2025-2035, with negligible impact.
The federal cost is just the administrative overhead for to survey, process, and transfer land parcels and conduct public engagement—the real policy impact is the transfer of federal forest land to tribal control.
