Satellite Cybersecurity Act of 2025
Creates a government clearinghouse for satellite cybersecurity guidance and orders a federal review of how agencies protect commercial satellites.
Tradeoff
Requires the Commerce Department to build a satellite cybersecurity resource hub within six months and coordinate with other agencies. No new regulatory authority or funding is authorized.
What's in it
Costs $14 million over 2026-2031 for Department of Commerce to create and manage a satellite cybersecurity information database.
The $14 million is the federal cost to administer the cybersecurity information-sharing program — the policy's actual impact is on satellite operators who must review and implement the safety measures recommended through the database.
