Secure Space Act of 2026
Blocks the FCC from licensing satellites and ground stations linked to entities on a national-security risk list.
Tradeoff
Prevents foreign companies deemed security risks from accessing U.S. satellite markets. The FCC must write rules within one year to enforce the ban.
What's in it
Costs less than $500,000 to implement over 10 years with negligible net cost to the federal government.
The $500,000 is just the federal cost for the FCC to enforce the new security screening rules — the policy's real impact falls on satellite companies that may face licensing restrictions or fee increases to cover the FCC's regulatory work.
Passed the Senate by on September 23, 2026 — now in the House.
