Theodore Roosevelt National Park Wild Horses Protection Act
Requires the Interior Department to maintain at least 150 wild horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park's South Unit.
Tradeoff
Protects a genetically diverse horse herd in the park. Interior must balance horse management against protecting the park's natural resources.
What's in it
Costs less than $500,000 over the 2026-2031 period.
The $500,000 is just the federal cost to administer the requirement—the policy's real impact is the mandate on the National Park Service to maintain at least 150 genetically diverse horses and develop a management plan for the South Unit of the park.
Passed the Senate by on June 11, 2026 — sitting in the House.
