Sponsored by John Hoeven (R)
A bill to amend the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act to extend the deadline for the Secretary of the Interior to promulgate regulations implementing title IV of that Act, and for other purposes.
Would have given Interior 38 months to propose tribal self-governance rules and 50 months to finalize them.
Tradeoff
Would have pushed back Interior's deadlines for Tribal Self-Governance Program rules by 17 and 20 months. Would have delayed the rules for tribal compacts and funding agreements under the PROGRESS for Indian Tribes Act.
