GPO Modernization Act of 2026
Updates federal rules for accessing and managing government publications through libraries and digital systems.
Tradeoff
Modernizes how federal documents are stored, cataloged, and made available to the public online and through libraries. Requires government agencies to notify the Superintendent of Documents about their publications.
What's in it
Estimated cost is negligible (between -$500,000 and $500,000) over 2026-2031.
The negligible federal cost represents mostly administrative updates to GPO's authorities for digital publishing — the policy's real impact is on how federal agencies will manage and preserve government publications going forward.
