ROUTERS Act
Requires a study of national security risks from routers made by China, Iran, North Korea, or Russia.
Tradeoff
Orders the Commerce Department to study cybersecurity threats from foreign routers and report to Congress within one year. No funding is specified in the bill.
What's in it
Costs $2 million over five years for Department of Commerce study and reporting.
The $2 million is the federal cost to conduct and report the study — the bill itself does not ban devices or impose requirements on manufacturers, so the real policy impact would depend on what Congress does with the study's findings.
Passed the House by on April 28, 2025 — sitting in the Senate.
