Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act
Creates a Treasury office to investigate fraud in federal spending and disaster relief programs.
Tradeoff
Establishes new oversight positions and systems to catch fraud across federal programs. Authorizes $10 million annually starting in 2035 to fund the new office.
What's in it
No net change to the deficit over 2026-2036; $10 million per year authorized for starting in 2035 for the new Office of Inspector General for Fraud, Accountability, and Recovery.
The $10 million annual cost is purely federal administrative overhead to operate the new Inspector General office for fraud detection and recovery; the policy's actual impact depends on how much fraud is recovered, which CBO cannot quantify.
The House passed this 240-181 on June 10, 2026. The bill is now in the Senate.
