Foster Youth Housing Opportunity Act
Expands housing and education support for youth aging out of foster care up to age 26.
Tradeoff
Allows states to spend existing federal foster care funds on housing counseling, financial literacy, and education vouchers for former foster youth. No new funding is authorized by the bill.
What's in it
Costs $89 million over 10 years (2026–2035).
The $89 million funds new and HUD guidance coordination, report preparation, and enables states to redirect existing Chafee program funds toward housing support services (security deposits, moving costs) for aging-out foster youth—a mix of federal administrative costs and state-administered assistance.
