Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024
Would have let FERC, not the Energy Department, approve US natural gas export and import facilities.
Tradeoff
Would have removed the Energy Department's approval step for natural gas exports and imports. Also would have kept the president's sanctions powers to block trade intact.
What's in it
The House rejected a motion to send the bill back for changes, 209-213, then passed it 224-200 on February 15, 2024. The Senate never voted on it before the 118th Congress ended, so the bill expired.
