Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act
Would have blocked a new federal welfare-funds rule for pregnancy centers that support life and offer material help.
Tradeoff
Would have stopped from applying a new spending test to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) money given to pregnancy centers. Would have kept those centers eligible for TANF funds, including for counseling, diapers, and baby clothes.
What's in it
The House passed this 214-208 on January 18, 2024, after a motion to send it back to committee failed 208-214. The Senate never voted on it before the Congress ended, so the bill expired.
