Sponsored by Keith Self (R)
Federal Program Integrity and Fraud Prevention Act of 2026
Blocks federal contracts and grants for three years to people convicted of fraud-related felonies.
Tradeoff
Prevents convicted fraudsters from receiving federal money. Agencies can waive the ban if they notify Congress and justify it.
What's in it
No significant federal cost over 2026-2031; spending subject to estimated between zero and $500,000.
The federal cost is negligible—just the overhead to operate the exclusion system—because the policy's real impact is preventing certain individuals from receiving federal contracts and grants rather than reducing the total amount of federal spending.
