Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act
Would have made it easier for the Energy Department to loosen or repeal appliance efficiency standards.
Tradeoff
Would have let the Energy Department (DOE) weaken or repeal appliance energy rules if they raise consumer costs. Would have blocked a 2024 rule on distribution transformers from taking effect.
What's in it
The House passed this 212-195 on May 7, 2024. That same day, a motion to send the bill back to committee failed 202-206. The Senate never voted on it before the Congress ended.
