Sponsored by Mark Harris (R)
Cashless Bail Reporting Act
Requires DOJ to publish an annual list of states and cities that allow cashless bail for serious crimes.
Tradeoff
Creates a public list naming jurisdictions with cashless bail policies for violent, sexual, and property crimes. No direct federal spending or revenue change.
What's in it
Less than $500,000 over 2026-2030 in federal spending.
The $500,000 or less is only the federal cost to compile and publish an annual list of state and local jurisdictions — the bill itself does not fund any programs or change bail conditions, which remain under state and local control.
The House passed this 308-116 on May 14, 2026 — sitting in the Senate.
