Privacy Enhancing Technology Research Act

Would have required federal research on tools that protect personal data privacy.

Tradeoff

Would have directed the National Science Foundation (NSF) to fund privacy-protecting technology research. Would have also required NIST to coordinate voluntary privacy standards with businesses and researchers.
