Sponsored by Ralph Norman (R)
To amend the Catawba Indian Tribe of South Carolina Land Claims Settlement Act of 1993.
Lets the Catawba Indian Nation set its own tribal membership rules.
Tradeoff
Removes federal restrictions on who the tribe can enroll as members. Gives the tribe full control over its membership criteria.
What's in it
No measurable cost or savings to the federal budget over any time window.
The bill changes tribal membership eligibility rules rather than federal funds; the CBO found no additional federal cost because relevant agencies already serve the affected population through existing program eligibility pathways.
