Rural Veterans’ Improved Access to Benefits Act of 2025
Expands the pool of health professionals who can conduct disability exams for veterans through 2031.
Tradeoff
Lets the VA contract with more types of health professionals (dentists, pharmacists, clinic directors) to conduct disability exams for veterans, potentially speeding up the process in rural areas. The VA must report on how it uses this expanded authority.
What's in it
Increases direct spending by less than $500,000 over 2025-2035, primarily for a reporting requirement.
The $500K federal cost is just the expense to VA for producing a required report on exam usage; the policy's real impact is on veterans in rural areas who gain access to disability examinations from more types of licensed health care providers, regardless of state licensing jurisdiction.
