Supersonic Aviation Modernization Act
Lets supersonic jets fly over the US if their sonic boom doesn't reach the ground.
Tradeoff
Opens US airspace to faster commercial flight. Requires sonic boom to stay above ground and takeoff/landing noise to match current subsonic aircraft standards.
What's in it
Costs $4 million over 2026-2030 in federal spending subject to .
The $4 million is only the federal cost to hire and staff FAA personnel to write and enforce supersonic flight rules—the real economic impact falls on aerospace companies that must design, certify, and operate supersonic aircraft in compliance with the new noise standards.
