Mining Regulatory Clarity Act of 2024
Would have let mining companies build roads and facilities on public land even without finding minerals.
Tradeoff
Would have let mining claim holders use public land for mining work without first finding a valuable mineral. Would have kept federal power to regulate mining in protected areas.
What's in it
The House agreed 210-204 on May 1, 2024, to a motion to send the bill back to committee. A second motion to send it back failed 203-208 on May 8. The House then passed the bill 216-195 that day. The Senate never voted on it before the Congress ended.
