Sponsored by Pete Sessions (R)
To amend the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 to codify certain Securities and Exchange Commission no-action letters that exclude brokers and dealers compensated for certain research services from the definition of investment adviser, and for other purposes.
Would have extended SEC guidance letting broker-dealers be paid for research without registering as investment advisers.
Tradeoff
Would have extended the SEC's temporary waiver for six months past July 3, 2023. Would have required an SEC study of the effects on research for smaller companies and investors.
