Save Our Shrimpers Act
Blocks US funding to international financial institutions that finance foreign shrimp farming.
Tradeoff
Protects US shrimp producers from foreign competition using international development money. Treasury can waive the rule if it decides blocking a shrimp project serves US national interests.
What's in it
Costs less than $500,000 over the 2026-2036 period.
The $500,000 is just the federal cost to implement the diplomatic requirement — the policy's real impact falls on foreign shrimp producers who may lose access to international financial assistance for shrimp-related activities.
The House passed this 391-18 on May 12, 2026 — now sitting in the Senate.
