Sponsored by Clay Higgins (R)
District of Columbia Federal Immigration Compliance Act of 2025
Bars Washington, D.C. from blocking federal immigration enforcement in the district.
Tradeoff
Overrides D.C. local sanctuary policies to require cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Saves the federal government negligible costs through reduced benefits to deported individuals.
What's in it
Cost is negligible (between -$500,000 and $500,000) over 2025-2035; reduces direct spending slightly through lower federal benefits to deported aliens.
The negligible federal cost is just the administrative overhead to implement the policy—the bill's real impact is a mandate on D.C. government to change its local sanctuary policies and cooperate with federal immigration authorities.
The House passed this 224-194 on June 12, 2025, after a failed 205-215. The bill is now in the Senate.
