Consumer Safety Technology Act
Establishes an AI pilot program at the Consumer Product Safety Commission and orders studies on blockchain for consumer protection.
Tradeoff
Directs CPSC to explore using artificial intelligence to track product hazards and recalled items. Also requires reports on blockchain technology and digital token fraud prevention.
What's in it
Costs $2 million over 5 years (2025-2029).
The $2 million is the federal cost to run a pilot program and conduct studies on AI and blockchain for consumer protection — the real-world impact depends on whether Congress later uses these findings to change consumer protection rules.
The House passed this 336-36 on July 14, 2025. The bill is now in the Senate.
