Communications Security Act
Creates statutory authority for an FCC council advising on communications network security and reliability.
Tradeoff
Establishes permanent advisory council to guide the FCC on network security and interoperability. Excludes foreign-controlled entities and those posing national security risks from membership.
What's in it
Costs $2 million over 5 years (2025-2029) for FCC administrative expenses.
The $2 million is the federal cost to administer the council within the FCC—the actual policy impact falls on telecommunications companies that must respond to and implement the council's security and interoperability recommendations.
