Simplifying Forms for Veterans Claims Act
Requires the VA to hire a research center to simplify veteran claim forms.
Tradeoff
Orders a study and form redesign at no specified cost. VA must implement recommended changes within two years of receiving the assessment.
What's in it
Saves $4 million in direct spending over 10 years (2025-2035) while requiring $2 million in discretionary spending, for a net deficit reduction of $4 million.
The bill creates $2 million in new federal spending to hire a research center to simplify VA benefits forms, but offsets this by extending a rule that reduces pension payments to certain nursing-home residents by $4 million over the decade, resulting in a small net savings to the federal budget.
The House passed this 386-1 on May 19, 2025 — sitting in the Senate.
