Sponsored by Steve Womack (R)
Protecting Veteran Access to Telemedicine Services Act of 2025
Lets VA doctors prescribe controlled medications via telemedicine without requiring an in-person exam first.
Tradeoff
Expands telemedicine access for veterans receiving controlled substances like opioids or ADHD drugs. Requires VA doctors to follow federal controlled-substance rules and VA quality standards.
What's in it
Less than $500,000 in federal spending over 2025-2030 to update VA policies.
The less than $500,000 is just the federal cost to update VA policies and guidance — the bill's real impact is on VA patients and providers, allowing permanent telemedicine prescribing of controlled substances that was temporary during COVID.
Passed the House by on September 15, 2025 — sitting in the Senate.
